The incident took place on 20 August. The class 9 student was admitted in Apollo Hospital on Thursday in a critical condition.
‘Prima facie it’s a case of brutal ragging that forced Kumar to attempt suicide inside his room,’ sources told Millennium Post. Along with Kumar, his younger brother also studies in the reputed school, which is located in the Gwalior Fort. Former union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is currently the president of the school.
According to close friends of the teenager, some seniors had tortured him over days. They did not even allow Kumar to eat inside the school mess. While talking to reporters, Jay Kumar Singh said, ‘School officials claim my son tried to kill himself. I strongly disagree to this.’
‘Even doctors attending to him at Apollo hospital say it does not seem to be a case of suicide,’ the minister alleged. He added his son had complained to his wife in the past about harassment by seniors. 'But we never thought the matter was so serious,' he said.
On the question of lodging complaint with the police, Singh said: ‘Currently, we are busy trying to save the child. But we will take up the matter with the school authority.’ The boy is admitted in the neuro ICU and is on ventilator. He is being treated under the supervision of Dr MS Chaudhary, internal medicine physician.
‘The patient was brought to the hospital on Thursday at 8:30 am in a critical condition and was immediately attended to by our team of experts,’ said a senior doctor from Apollo. ‘He is being provided appropriate medical care by a competent multidisciplinary team of senior consultant doctors. He is under constant monitoring and is on ventilator support in ICU,’ doctor said.
Sources said Jyotiraditya Scindia has visited the hospital to learn about the condition of the teenager.
