A school student studying in class X, who had been declared dead in Bihar last month after he eloped with a girl from his school, was traced, along with with the girl, on Monday.
'The two teenagers were spotted in south Delhi's Mehrauli around 2.45 pm. The duo had been staying in Ranchi, Jammu and Kashmir and Darjeeling before reaching Delhi by train on Monday morning,' a police official said.
'The two were detained after they failed to provide proper identity proof,' the official added. During questioning, the boy said that he was a resident of Madhubani and that he had been declared dead a month ago after his family members identified an unclaimed body as his.
'The boy said he eloped with his classmate from his hometown a month back without informing anyone. His family members later filed a missing complaint with the police,' the official informed.
A week after the missing complaint was filed, an unclaimed body of a boy was recovered by Bihar Police. 'When the body was shown to his family members, they identified it as his. But Bihar Police refused to hand over the body to his family without identity proof, informed the police official. 'A protest by the boy's family members followed and an irate mob surrounded the local police station and set it on fire. The crowd had also torched a prisoners' van allowing two dozen inmates to escape,' a police official said.
