This piece of writing may not please BJP leaders. Reason: The South citadel of the party has been abruptly destroyed. The Hand (party symbol of Congress) has crushed the Lotus (party symbol of BJP) in Karnataka and comfortably returned back to power after seven years.
‘The wrongdoings by Yeddyuruppa during his regime are mainly responsible for the loss of the party in Karnataka’, said Bihar BJP chief Mangal Pandey.
While taking on Congress on corruption, the state BJP chief said that BJP will never compromise with its principles, and it’s so that the party sacked Yeddyurappa after corruption charges, but the same is not happening in Congress.
‘If Yeddyurappa had not been sacked the picture would have been different’, said Mithilesh Tiwari, the state BJP vice-president.
On the question of the Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s failure, Tiwari said, ‘Modi should not be held responsible as it was the regional issues that ruled the roost in the southern state.’
While ruling Janata Dal-United leaders are happy that the BJP was routed in Karnataka despite campaigning by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.
‘It is a clear message that Modi failed despite the hype. People in Karnataka rejected the Modi brand of politics,’ JD-U spokesperson Sanjay Singh said.
Singh, a legislator considered close to chief minister Nitish Kumar, told the media that it was time the BJP had a rethink over its election strategy, in order to attract all sections of the society.
Another JD-U legislator, Aslam Azad, said the Karnataka result had proved that Modi was not a winning- factor for the BJP.
‘Modi’s popularity was again tested after the Himachal polls but he failed to help the BJP,’ he said.
Modi addressed only three election rallies in Karnataka but the BJP could not win even in those three places.
