Summer vacation extended for students up to class VIII

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has extended the summer vacation for students of up to Class 8 at government and private schools in the city until July 8 in view of the hot weather conditions. However, this order is not applicable to students from classes 9 to 12, who will have to go by the original schedule.

"In view of the hot weather in Delhi, the summer vacation for students up to class 8 is being extended till July 8. For other classes, the schools will reopen as per the earlier schedule," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, said in a tweet.

Weather officials have predicted that the ongoing heat wave in the national capital will continue for a while.

Meanwhile, there was no respite from the heat for residents of Delhi, with the maximum temperature settling at 5 degrees above normal Saturday. While the minimum temperature stood at 30 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, the maximum temperature touched 42.3 degrees Celsius - five degrees above normal for this time of the year. According to the Met department, humidity levels fluctuated between 28 and 55 per cent.
