Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Secretary General Partha Chatterjee hit out at BJP over their call for bandh on September 26 and said that it is an attempt on their part to create disturbance in the state.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had instructed the state administration on Saturday to take all necessary steps to foil the 12-hour bandh on Wednesday.
Chatterjee said that all workers and supporters of Trinamool Congress will be on the streets to protest against the bandh. He further urged the common people to foil the bandh call of the BJP.
"At a time when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is doing all round development in Bengal, BJP is trying to create anarchy in different parts of the state. They will try similar things on the day of bandh. We will take to the streets at every block and ward in the state and will thwart any attempt to disrupt normal life," Chatterjee said.
He condemned the attempts of BJP towards dividing people in the name of religion and reiterated that such activities will be strongly dealt with.
Senior Trinamool Congress leader Firhad Hakim said: "BJP is attempting to restrict the growth of Bengal by calling bandh. On one hand the Centre is not giving money to the state and on the other hand they have initiated the politics of bandhs just to hamper the development going on in the state."
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has become successful in removing the tag of "bandh culture" from the state by taking various steps in the past seven years.
According to political experts, Bengal was earlier known for its bandhs and massive traffic congestion due to political rallies and it was the outcome of the Left Front rule for 34 years. Soon after coming to power in 2011, the Mamata Banerjee government took the decision that there will be no more bandhs in the state and it has become the party's policy. Moreover, all departments and police take necessary steps so that people can reach their destinations without facing any inconvenience on the day any political party calls for a bandh.
It may be mentioned that in all the bandhs in the past seven years, the state Transport department had operated around 15 to 20 percent additional buses on different routes. The state government also takes necessary steps to keep everything operational.
This time too, additional buses will be operated, said a senior official of the state Transport department. Additional policemen will also be deployed so that common people do not face any trouble.
