Kolkata: Former Indian cricket captain and current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was admitted to a private hospital on EM Bypass on Wednesday afternoon for the second time in recent past after he complained about chest discomfort. A stent will be implanted on him for the second time on Thursday.

Less than a month ago, Ganguly had been admitted to another private hospital in Alipore with chest pain where he was diagnosed with three blockages in the coronary artery. A stent was implanted and later released. However, he was kept under close monitoring. The doctors wanted to observe Ganguly and then take a decision about another angioplasty to repair the other blockage.

Sources in the hospital said he had some discomfort since Tuesday night. He was taken to the hospital through a green corridor channel facilitated by the police. However, he was seen walking out of the car for admission. He was immediately taken to the Cath Lab and an Echocardiogram was done in which some anomalies were spotted. There were some irregularities found in his ECG report. He has been kept under close monitoring inside a cabin, sources said.

Dr Saptarshi Basu and Dr Saroj Mondal are attending Ganguly. Dr Aftab Khan will install a stent on Ganguly for the second time on Thursday in presence of Dr Devi Shetty. The first stenting was done on him on January 2. The medical board earlier advised to implant stents to revascularize the blocks. Ganguly was earlier told that the blockages would be reviewed through angiograms.

His family members were in the hospital. Union Home minister Amit Shah enquired about the latest status of his health.
