New Delhi: Parliament witnessed intense uproar on Wednesday as both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha were rocked by sharp exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches over the George Soros issue and a no-confidence notice against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

In the Rajya Sabha, proceedings were adjourned for the day without transacting any business as ruling party MPs accused the Congress of supporting foreign interests to destabilize the country. As soon as the House reconvened at noon following an earlier adjournment, Leader of the House J P Nadda launched a scathing attack on the Congress, demanding a discussion on its alleged links with billionaire investor George Soros.

“I want to bring to your notice that for the last two days our people are raising the issue of what relationship does the Congress top leadership have with George Soros. What is the relationship between Soros and Sonia Gandhi?” Nadda questioned. He claimed that the issue concerns the country's sovereignty and the security of its internal and external affairs.

Nadda further alleged that the Congress was attempting to divert attention from the issue by moving a no-confidence notice against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. He described it as a "design to deviate the attention of the nation from the issue of sovereignty" and accused the opposition of being a "tool in the hands of foreign forces."

He condemned the opposition for its comments on the Chair, stating, "They have never respected the Chair, be it inside or outside the House — the way they have made comments against the Chair's decision and those holding constitutional posts." Treasury bench members supported Nadda's remarks, leading to a raucous atmosphere as opposition members shouted slogans. Amid the commotion, Deputy Chairman Harivansh adjourned the House for the day.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha witnessed a similar face-off between government and opposition members. Proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm after heated arguments erupted when Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi raised the issue of violence in Manipur, accusing the BJP of using the Soros issue as a distraction from its "failures" in the northeastern state.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal retaliated, accusing the Congress of having links with Soros-backed outfits allegedly working to destabilize India. The remarks sparked a flurry of protests from opposition MPs, who countered with loud slogans. The face-off continued until BJP MP Sandhya Ray, who was in the chair, adjourned the session.

This marked the third consecutive day of disruption in Parliament, with both Houses failing to function smoothly as the government and opposition locked horns over Soros and the no-confidence notice against the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
