Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and stated that he was indulging in "vote politics over dead bodies of jawans" after the Pulwama terror strike.
Referring to the February 14 incident, she said: "Modi Babu, where were you when the attack took place? You knew that there would be such an incident. The government had intelligence inputs. But they (jawans) were not airlifted and no step for road sanitisation was taken. Why were they deliberately pushed to the brink of death? Was it to take advantage of the situation during the elections? Vote politics with the blood of jawans is unacceptable."
Addressing the core committee meeting of the Trinamool Congress at Nazrul Manch in Kolkata, she said at present the Prime Minister was trying to create a "war hysteria" ahead of the Lok Sabha polls to draw political mileage.
"He is talking of 'shadow fighting' and 'surgical strike' and pitching two countries against each other and he is going to another country to bag a peace prize," she said taking a dig at Modi over the Seoul Peace Prize that he received on February 22 for international cooperation, global growth and human development.
"This government is being run by two brothers (Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah), who have blood of the innocents on their hands," she stated.
The Chief Minister further added that the country had witnessed disasters on all fronts in the five-year rule of the BJP government at the Centre.
"From job security to national security, internal security to farmers' security, unemployment to demonetisation there has been a complete disaster in every aspect. India's cultural heritage, unity, federal structure, institutions, Constitution, history everything have been destroyed. We are aware of Hitler's dictatorship, but they have even surpassed that," she said.
Slamming the Centre for backing the RSS, she said: "They follow an extremist ideology and they spread hate and violence. There is no rule of law in the country. Even journalists, who question the government, are being harassed on social media. They even get threat calls."
Banerjee also urged the people to stay alert and not to believe in rumours about child-lifters.
"They (BJP-backed criminals) are wearing burqas to spread child-lifting rumours. The objective is to turn the Hindu community against the Muslims. You have to thwart such attempts," she maintained.
