New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday said that they have arrested a 32-year-old engineer who allegedly killed his wife, an MNC executive, with the help of his girlfriend in South West Delhi. The investigating agency revealed that the accused's girlfriend claimed that she had spiked the deceased's juice and later smothered her. Police said that on March 16, they got a PCR call from hospital regarding the death of a woman named Pooja Rai (wife) who was brought to the hospital by her husband Rahul Kumar Mishra. "On April 27, post mortem report was received which opined the cause of death as homicidal," police further said.

The investigating agency said that after questioning different persons, they came to know that on the day of incident Padma (girlfriend) visited the Pooja before her death. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Devender Arya said that the further probe and the technical surveillance (Call Details Record) in the case raised suspicion towards husband Rahul and Padma. The accused were confronted with the discrepancies in their statements given to the police. "They broke down and revealed that they hatched the conspiracy to eliminate the wife to reunite with Padma. They were unhappy with the deceased Pooja for ruining their love life," said DCP South West.

On March 16, Padma went to meet Pooja at her house in Kishangarh. "After reaching Pooja's home, Padma asked her to fetch water. When Pooja left, she mixed some toxic substance in the juice and offered that to the deceased," police said.

After drinking the juice, Rai complained of uneasiness, started vomiting and tried to leave the house but Tiwari overpowered her and hit her head on the floor several times and smothered her until she died. "We are probing Padma claims in the case," said DCP South West Delhi.
