Modi, Kejriwal announce compensation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the devastating fire on Sunday morning. The Prime Minister also approved Rs 50,000 each for those seriously injured, his office said.

President Ram Nath Kovind expressed grief over the death of 43 people and tweeted: "Extremely sad to hear the tragic news about the fire in Delhi's Anaj Mandi. My thoughts and prayers are with affected families. Wishing an early recovery to those injured. The local authorities are doing their best to rescue people and provide help."

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those dead in the Anaj Mandi fire tragedy on Sunday, promising "strictest" punishment for those responsible for the incident.

The Delhi government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. He also announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for those injured in the blaze and said the government will ensure proper treatment for the injured.
