New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at giving a great push to Make in India programme, the Prime Minister's Office has asked all departmental heads to make tendering process in 'favourable' to local manufacturers so that they don't get weeded out from the race. According to sources, a letter in this regard has been written to all secretaries in the government by Nripendra Misra, who is principal secretary to the Prime Minister.
Citing the contents of the letter, the sources said, "In the letter, all secretaries have been asked to not put any restrictive conditions for local manufacturers while preparing the tender papers."
"All the departmental heads have also been asked to not set any condition concerning turnover, testing, standards, etc. as most of the domestic firms fail to meet this criterion and don't make it to the next level of the tendering process," the sources said.
There are two types of bids in the tender awarding process - technical and financial bids. Any firm participating in the tendering process has first to qualify technical bid to get a chance of being selected in the financial bid.
Through the letter, sent in the first week of January, the PMO has asked all secretaries to ensure that products manufactured under the Make in India scheme also get shortlisted.
