New Delhi: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi appears set for a commanding electoral mandate, with exit polls from NHK and other major broadcasters projecting that her ruling Liberal Democratic Party-led coalition will secure a single-party majority in Sunday’s 465-seat House of Representatives election and could even exceed a two-thirds majority.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Takaichi on her “landmark victory”, saying the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership was vital for global peace, stability, and prosperity, and expressing confidence that bilateral ties would continue to grow under her leadership.
