Gurugram: At around 6:00 am on Monday morning, incessant barking of pet dogs and no response to the calls of a domestic help forced residents of Uppal South End in Sector-49 to break the door of flat S-299. They were aghast to find four family members, including Dr Prakash Singh, the owner dead.

Those deceased include his 50-year-old wife, Sonu Singh, 22 -year-old daughter Aditi and 13-year-old son Aditya, all of them were murdered by a sharp object and lay in a pool of blood in their bedroom. Fifty-five-year-old Dr Prakash Singh was found hanging from a fan in the drawing room.

Further investigations by Gurugram police led to the recovery of a note from the shirt of Dr Prakash Singh where he mentioned that he was not able to take care of the entire family and thereby taking such an extreme step.

"I completely failed in taking my family along with me. I am completely responsible for this, no one else," read the suicide note.

The post-mortem of bodies is yet to begin, though prima facie it appears that family was killed using a hammer and a sharp blade used for cutting wood.

"It will be too premature for us to say that what could have prompted Dr Singh to take such an extreme step. We are talking to family members and the neighbours to ascertain the reasons for such a tragedy.

The situation is going to become more clear after the post mortem, said Sulochana Gajaraj, DCP (East).

"We are examining the note with the help of handwriting experts to ascertain whether the letter was written by the doctor or someone else," a police official said.

Belonging to Varanasi, the Singh family was residing in Gurugram for eight years. Having done his PhD, the 55-year-old was employed with a chemical firm in Hyderabad after working for a pharmaceutical company in Gurugram.

According to the police, he had not been attending his office for the last month and the company was being questioned about reasons for the same.

His 50-year-old wife Sonu Singh, on the other hand, was running an NGO that was operating four playschools in the city

His 22-year-old daughter Aditi was pursuing BSc from Jamia college Delhi while the youngest of the Singh family Aditya (13) was a class nine student at DAV school Gurugram.
