New Delhi: A day after the factory fire in North Delhi's Anaj Mandi in which 43 lives were snuffed out, a Delhi court on Monday sent the property owner and manager of the building to 14 days police custody.

Metropolitan Magistrate Manoj Kumar sent Rehan (property owner) and Furkan (manager) to the custody after the police sought their 14-day custodial interrogation.

Both were arrested on Sunday and a case was registered under Sections 304 and 308 of the IPC at Sadar Bazaar police station. It was transferred to the Crime Branch for further probe.

The fire originated from the second floor of the building at a time when the labourers were sleeping. It was claimed that the place did not have a fire clearance and no fire safety equipment was found installed on the premises. The escape routes were also locked.
