Bihar elections: Tejashwi-led Grand Alliance has clear edge

Update: 2020-11-07 20:00 GMT

New Delhi: As the polling for the 78 seats witnessed a significant 57.91 per cent voting in the last and final phase of Bihar Assembly elections, pollsters concluded the outcome of the election in favour of the Opposition coalition in Bihar led by Tejashwi Yadav.

If predictions are to be believed, Tejashwi is all set to become India's youngest serving chief minister at the age of 31 years and would celebrate his birthday on November 9.

As per the average of all Exit polls, the Grand Alliance has an edge over the ruling alliance as the RJD-led alliance may win 124 seats, which is just a few more than the majority mark of 122, while the incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's NDA may get 110 seats in their kitty.

However, an Exit poll conducted by Today's Chanakya has predicted a landslide victory for the Mahagathbandhan. The survey has projected that the RJD-led alliance may win more than 180 seats in the Assembly and a two-thirds majority.

The Today's Chanakya predictions may give sleepless nights to the ruling alliance under Nitish Kumar as the survey has predicted that the BJP-JDU combine would win just 55 seats.

As per Time Now-C Voter, the NDA may win 116 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan may settle its score at 120 and Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) may not perform well and get just one seat.

However, Republic TV-Jan Ki Baat gave 118 to 138 seats to the Opposition alliance and 91-117 seats to the ruling NDA. Chirag Paswan's party is likely to win five to eight seats, it said.

The ABP-CVoter survey predicted 104-128 seats for the NDA, 108-131 for the Mahagathbandhan and four to eight seats for other parties.

The Bihar results will be announced on Tuesday, November 10.

According to political analysts, if these polls are any indication, it means that anti-incumbency may be a big challenge to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's bid for a fourth straight term.

With Bihar witnessing a significant 57.91 per cent turnout in the third and the last phase of the elections, it seems the fear of Covid-19 failed to dampen the spirits of 2.35 crore electorates in the 78 Assembly seats of Bihar.

The highest turnout of 68.38 per cent was recorded in the Kasba Assembly seat in Purnia district followed by Kochadhaman, which registered 67.1 per cent, and Chhatapur at 66.2 per cent.

Among the 15 districts, where polling was held on Saturday, Kishanganj recorded highest 62.55 per cent polling followed by Katihar at 61.57 per cent and Supaul at 61.19 per cent. The lowest turnout of 52.68 has been recorded in Vaishali district and among the 78 constituencies; the lowest 50.89 per cent voting was registered in Patepur Assembly seat under the Vaishali district.
