Combing operation in Kashmir to check bank robbery, cop killings: Army Chief

The Indian Army on Thursday launched a Comprehensive anti-terror operation amidst incident of bank robberies, cash van robberies and snatching of rifles in Jammu and Kashmir.

The security forces isolated more than 20 villages of Kashmir's Shopian district and initiated search operations.

"Today's combing operation (in Kashmir) is to make sure that situation is brought under control, post recent incidents," Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat told media on Thursday. "Banks have been looted, policemen have been killed. That is why today's combing operation is taking place," he informed. 

"Terrorists are going to attempt infiltration, snows are melting, summer months started so like each year infiltration will commence. We are taking measures, have beefed up our counter-infiltration posture to take care of the situation," he added

On Monday, militants killed five policemen and two private guards of a Jammu Kashmir bank.  On Tuesday night, militants had snatched five rifles from Jammu Kashmir policemen who were deployed at a district court complex.On Tuesday night, militants had snatched five rifles from Jammu Kashmir policemen who were deployed at a district court complex.

The cash van of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank, which was returning to Kulgam district headquarter from Damhal Hanji Pora, was waylaid by a group of heavily-armed terrorists this afternoon, a police official had said.
