2 BSF troopers killed in Chhattisgarh Maoist attack, Raman Singh condoles

Raipur: Two Border Security Force (BSF) troopers were killed and one was seriously injured in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on Sunday, officials said.

The deceased BSF personnel have been identified as Lokendra Singh from Rajasthan and Mukhtiyar Singh of Punjab. The injured trooper, Sandeep, has been admitted to a hospital.

Kanker Superintendent of Police K.L. Dhruv said: "A BSF patrol party was attacked by the Maoists following which there was a gun battle."

The Naxals opened fire on a BSF platoon at around 3.45 am on Sunday, killing two soldiers and injuring one. The exchange of fire lasted for about an hour in which the two BSF personnel were killed.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh expressed grief over two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans losing their lives in a Naxal attack in the state.

Their mortal remains were brought to the 114 Bn BSF Batallion Head Quarters in Pakhanjore city for the wreath-laying ceremony.

The condition of the injured jawan, Sandeep Dey, is stable.

Last month, two jawans of 231 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force were injured when Naxals blew up an IED in the Maoist hotbed, Dantewada district.

Earlier on May 20, Naxals killed six jawans in a blast in Dantewada's Cholnar village.
