Bharatanatyam lights up Nrityangan event

Art and  culture is something which is cherished by aficionados and when a dance form is taken up by people belonging to a completely different culture, it is quite a sight.

Nrityangan organised its 9th Annual programme on Saturday at Uttam Manch in Kolkata to showcase the Bharatanatyam dance recital.

On this occasion some eminent personalities like Bharatanatyam dance Guru Thankamani Kutty, Subrata Mukhopadhyay (Panchayet Minister, Government of West Bengal); Pranati Tagore, elocutionist; Sudeshna Roy, Film Director and music maestro Pandit Subhen Chattopadhyay were felicitated.

Veteran actors Mrinal Mukherjee and Biswajit Chakraborty; lndrani Sanyal, educationist and National table tennis coach Tapan Chanda were also present.

This programme was ornamented with some ‘Stotras’ and ‘Bhajans’ arranged to suit the style of Bharatanatyam in the first half. In the latter half dancers entertained the audience on some ever popular and melodious tunes of great composers of Bengal.

The dance direction choreography of the entire programme has been done by the famous dancer Jhinook Mukherjee Sinha. 

South Kolkata Nrityangan has been involved in training students across all socio economic levels in the classical Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam. The aim is to re-establish the charisma of this most graceful classical dance form today, especially among talented students irrespective of their social and financial conditions.
