Malda: The body of an unidentified woman was recovered by the police on Sunday in an agricultural land of Nasarpur village of Kushida Gram Panchayat (GP) under the Harishchandrapur Police Station.

The face of the deceased was distorted using acid due to which the woman could not be identified.

Primarily it is held that the woman was gangraped and then murdered brutally. The locals spotted the body and called the police. A huge crowd gathered but the police cordoned the area and started an investigation. The body has also been sent for post-mortem to Malda Medical College and Hospital.

The locals assumed that the miscreants and the woman perhaps came from Bihar.

Abdul Kayum, member of Kushida GP, said: “Apparently it can be said that the woman, aged around 35-40 years, was gangraped, murdered and then her face was distorted to restrict identification. People from almost 25 villages have come here but none can identify the deceased. The body was partially naked and there were some blood marks on the road. Some used condoms are also left here by the miscreants. The police will investigate and reveal the truth.”

The police collected samples from the spot for examination and started a detailed investigation. Efforts are also being made to identify the deceased woman, said

the police.
