Kolkata: The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has decided to provide ruled answer scripts for children with special needs (CWSN) in the upcoming Madhyamik examinations, 2025, to assist them in maintaining straight
lines while writing.
Ramanuj Ganguly, president of WBBSE, stated: “Following extensive discussions on providing support for specially-abled students during their first major examination and based on the directives of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and suggestions of state Education minister Bratya Basu, this initiative is being implemented. This year, exam centres with these students will be provided with ruled answer scripts for the Madhyamik exams.”
CWSN candidates, especially those with dyslexia or autism, often find it difficult to write in straight lines, leading to illegible handwriting on plain answer sheets, which makes evaluating those answer scripts challenging for examiners. In response to repeated requests from parents and teachers, the WBBSE has decided to provide ruled answer scripts for all subjects in the Madhyamik exams.
The ruled scripts will feature wider line gaps than the standard ruled notebook and will be available to students who write without a scribe and have applied for extra time.
