Cooch Behar: The North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) has announced plans to increase the number of buses operating on the Mathabhanga and Tufanganj routes, benefiting passengers by reducing wait times. Along with an increase in fleet size, the frequency of bus services will be improved.
On Monday, NBSTC Chairman Partha Pratim Roy visited the Central Bus Terminus in Cooch Behar town to assess the current state of operations. During his visit, he interacted with passengers, drivers, and conductors to gather feedback on facilities and services.
Speaking about the inspection, Chairman Roy said: “We regularly conduct inspections to ensure buses are operating on schedule and to address any issues faced by passengers. During today’s inspection, we observed delays in services on the Tufanganj and Mathabhanga routes, with buses running at 30-minute intervals. This has led to long queues of passengers waiting for NBSTC buses, which are the preferred choice for many travellers.” To address the issue, he announced plans to reduce the intervals to 15 minutes and assured that a meeting would be held at the Cooch Behar Depot to discuss the implementation of these changes. “We will also explore the possibility of increasing the number of buses to accommodate the growing demand,” he added.
Roy further noted that bus services on other routes were operating efficiently and emphasised the corporation’s commitment to providing timely and reliable public transportation for passengers across the region.
