Kolkata: A 28-year-old man attempted suicide at the Esplanade Metro Station on the Blue Line (Kavi Subhash-Dakshineswar) on Wednesday evening, an official of Kolkata Metro Railway said.

According to the Metro authorities, the incident occurred at 4:15 pm when the man jumped in front of an incoming Dum Dum-bound Metro. Authorities immediately blocked the power and initiated rescue efforts. As a result, services in the Up line, in which Metros travel towards Dakshineswar, were disrupted for nearly half-an-hour, with normal operations resuming at 4:42 pm. It was reported that the man survived the attempt. However, according to the police, the man, a resident of Rajasthan, did not attempt suicide and it was an accident. He fell onto the tracks after being pushed by other passengers, resulting in injuries to both his legs due to the friction from the moving train. The injured person was taken to SSKM Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His family members have arrived at the hospital.
