Malda: A new Surgical Emergency Department has been inaugurated at Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in English Bazar to enhance rapid medical services.

The new department was officially inaugurated on Wednesday at the Trauma Care Building by Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury, Chairman of English Bazar Municipality (EBM) and Rugi Kalyan Samiti of MMCH. This is the second emergency facility at the MMCH.

The addition of this new department is expected to significantly improve healthcare services, especially in emergency cases. Partha Pratim Mukhopadhyay, Principal of MMCH, and Prosenjit Bar, Medical Superintendent and Vice Principal of MMCH, were also present during the inauguration.

Mukhopadhyay said: “Previously patients and their kin had to go to the lone emergency then again had to bring the patient to the Trauma Care Building. But now, surgical emergencies will serve as a single window for concerned patients.” Ujjjal Saha, District President of the Malda Market Chamber of Commerce and Industries, commended the initiative and praised the efforts to improve healthcare accessibility in the region. “This is a new feather to the crown of MMCH. It will pacify the commencement of treatment of the patients and reduce the harassment of the public seeking medical care,” stated Choudhury.
