Kolkata: Bodies of a youth and his parents were found under mysterious circumstances at their residence in Ramrajatala, under the jurisdiction of Jagachha Police Station, on Tuesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Samabrit Khan (32), his father Balaram Khan (66), and mother Shelly Khan (54). According to sources, Balaram was an LIC agent, Shelly worked with India Post and Samabrit was employed in the IT sector.

The incident came to light when Shelly’s sister, Swati Mitra Mustafi, tried calling the family members multiple times in the morning but received no response. Concerned, she went to their flat in the Hatpukur area. Despite repeated knocking, no one answered the door. She then informed the police.

Personnel from Jagachha Police Station arrived shortly and also attempted to get a response, but to no avail. The main door, which was locked from inside, was eventually broken open. Inside, police discovered Balaram and Shelly lying dead in one room, while Samabrit’s body was found in another. Froth was reportedly seen coming out of the mouths of all three. The bodies were recovered and sent for autopsy. Police suspect that the trio may have consumed poison and had likely died at least four hours before being discovered.

An unnatural death case has been registered. Investigators are questioning neighbours and relatives to determine if the family had been facing any distress or issues. The exact cause of death will be confirmed following the autopsy report.
