Goalpokhar: Three Bangladeshi nationals include names in vote list using neighbour as father
Raiganj: A fresh controversy has erupted at Doodkumar village under Goalpokhar Police Station areas of North Dinajpur district after three alleged Bangladeshi nationals were found to have enrolled their names in the voter list by falsely showing a local resident, Dilwar Hossain, as their father. The matter surfaced during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Villagers demanded strict scrutiny of voter enrollment to prevent such fraudulent practices.
According to the family of Dilwar Hossain, the manipulation came to light when they were checking voter records for filling up enumeration forms. In the list, the names of three individuals Anowarul Hossain, Sayed Hossain and Noor Nabi, three brothers appeared with Dilwar Hossain listed as their father.
Md Arif, son of Dilwar Hossain, said: “Recently, while verifying the voter list for SIR, we found that these three persons had enrolled themselves by using my father’s name as their father. They came from Bangladesh a few years ago and started living in our village. We fear they may later claim rights over my father’s property.
My father is sick and we immediately approached the local BLO, urging her not to accept their enumeration forms with my father’s details. After the matter was exposed, the trio fled the village. We have lodged written complaints with both the BDO Goalpokhar and SDO Islampur seeking legal action.”
Tahera Khatun, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) of Doodkumar village, confirmed the development. “The matter has been brought to our notice. We will inform the appropriate authority for necessary steps,” she said.
SDO Islampur Ankita Agarwal also acknowledged receiving the complaint and said: “We have received a written complaint from the affected family, stating that their family head was used as a fake father by three persons. The matter will be investigated thoroughly, and appropriate action will be taken.”
