Kolkata: The Kolkata Police have cracked the cash snatching case, which took place close to a shopping mall at Park Circus in broad daylight on Monday.
The Kolkata Police sleuths have apprehended three persons in connection with the crime and have managed to recover around Rs 10.5 lakh cash which accounts for nearly 90 per cent of the money that was snatched.
“We have arrested three persons in connection with the incident which includes the two snatchers and the prime accused – the person who had provided the inputs to the snatchers. The blue motorcycle used by the snatchers and the mobile phone used for exchanging information for committing the crime have been seized. The number plate of the bike was tampered with,” said Bholanath Pandey, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East).
According to police sources, the arrested persons have been identified as Shamim of Saniberia, North 24 Parganas, Shah Alam Molla of Sashan, North 24 Parganas and Bikash of Santoshpur under Survey Park Police Station in Kolkata.
Bikash had provided information to his accomplices that a security agency collects huge cash from a store inside Quest Mall at around 12.30 to 2 pm every day.
The other two had done recce and on January 13, while the money was being transported into the cash van in a backpack, they came on a motorcycle, snatched the cash and sped away. Both were wearing helmets.
The Kolkata Police top brass had formed four teams to investigate the case that was reported at the Karaya Police Station and all the cops involved in the investigation worked tirelessly to solve it. “We will recommend a special award to be given to those involved in this case to the Kolkata Police Commissioner,” added Pandey.
