New Delhi: In a bid to revolutionize Delhi’s public transport system, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday, has flagged off 40 new electric buses as part of a continuous effort to make the capital city’s transport system world-class and environmentally sustainable.
During the inauguration of the newly redeveloped DTC bus terminal at Azadpur, the Chief Minister stated, “Our government has achieved historic improvements in just eight months. The public chose change, and the government has converted that mandate into development and service.”
Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh echoed the sentiments, saying, “Bus strength continuously increased based on route demand. Delhi is witnessing rapid improvements in passenger amenities, travel safety, environmental conservation and modern mobility.”
The redevelopment of the Azadpur Bus Terminal features modern facilities such as waiting areas, a baby-feeding room, lockers, passenger utilities, shaded platforms, solar panels, CCTV surveillance, bio-digesters, and green energy systems to enhance the overall commuting experience.
The 40 newly launched electric buses are equipped with advanced features such as low-floor design, air-conditioning, CCTV cameras, panic buttons, and real-time GPS tracking to ensure passenger safety and convenience.
Dr. Singh also highlighted that the Transport Department is committed to expanding bus availability based on route demand, with a total of 116 buses, most of them electric, set to operate from the Azadpur terminal across 21 major routes.
With a focus on transforming the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) into a strong, efficient, and financially sound organization, the government aims to provide commuters with safer, cleaner, and more comfortable travel options.
