BALURGHAT: A burn unit comprising 20 beds was inaugurated at Gangarampur Super-Specialty Hospital in a programme on Saturday by Consumer Protection minister Biplab Mitra. There was no such unit at the hospital and the patients had to shift to Balurghat district hospital for treatment.
Inaugurating the burn unit, Biplab Mitra said: “As there was no existing burn unit at Gangarampur Super-Specialty Hospital, the concerned hospital authority had to shift the patients to Balurghat district hospital. This was a longstanding demand of the local people of Gangarampur subdivision. Initially, a 20-bedded burn unit was opened on Saturday. We have a target to increase beds there in the future.”
“The patients of four blocks, including Gangarampur, Banshihari, Kushmandi and Harirampur under Gangarampur subdivision will be benefitted from it. The new Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) of South Dinajpur Sudip Das who joined a few months ago had earlier taken an initiative to open the burn unit here. More development work will be taken up for the hospital,” he said. Apart from this, 20 beds were increased at Gangarampur Sub-Divisional Hospital the same day and a new female ward comprising 20 additional beds for women was inaugurated by Mitra in presence of Sudip Das, Chintamoni Beha, Sabhadhipati, South Dinajpur Zilla Parishad and other health officials.
Mitra said: “There has been a huge influx of female patients all the time at Gangarampur Subdivisional Hospital and it was very tough for the concerned hospital authority to accommodate all the female patients here. We had set a target to increase female beds at Gangarampur Hospital. Without finding any alternative, the patients had to share beds and huddled in a single bed in the female ward. The additional beds will help the hospital authority to accommodate patients. In the future, we will increase beds here.”
Das said: “More development works will be taken up soon for Gangarampur Hospital. We have infrastructure here and adequate experts to treat the patients. The number of beds for both the newly-introduced burn unit and the female ward will be increased.”
On the same day, Mitra went to the children ward of Gangarampur Super-Specialty Hospital and handed over new clothes to them on the occasion of Mahalaya.
