Cooch Behar: A clash erupted at the Mathabhanga Bura Buri border in Cooch Behar district when Bangladeshi smugglers allegedly attempted to forcibly enter Indian territory on Sunday. Border Security Force (BSF) personnel intervened to prevent the illegal entry, after which the intruders attacked them with sharp weapons.
In response, the BSF fired in self-defence, forcing the smugglers to retreat. According to official sources, one of the intruders, identified as Bangladeshi national Saidul Islam, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the incident. He is reportedly receiving treatment at Rangpur Hospital in Bangladesh.
The BSF has lodged a formal complaint at Mathabhanga Police Station regarding the matter.
The incident has caused considerable tension in the border area. Sources from the BSF and local police revealed that the confrontation occurred early on Sunday morning when a group of Bangladeshi smugglers, including Saidul Islam, attempted to cross into Indian territory.
