After winning Municipality Election at Berhampur, Banerjee is believed to be visiting Murshidabad to challenge the Congress heavyweight Adhir Ranjan Chaudhury by announcing a bunch of developmental projects there. Banerjee attended a rally at Rejinagar, where the Trinamool was defeated by the Congress just 10 months before.
According to Trinamool leader Mukul Ray, Congress may get bad results in Murshidabad and Jangipur. He also added that if the TMC placed the right candidate, then they could easily compete with and defeat Adhir Chowdhury.
In fact, Banerjee has apparently set up a special team to work in Raigunj, Malda North, Malda South, Jangipur, Berhampore and Murshidabad Lok Sabha constituencies, represented by the Congress.
TMC believes that apart from these six seats dominated by the Congress, Banerjee is unlikely to face a stiff opposition in any other seat in 2014. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had won his Berhampore seat by a margin of 1,82,549 votes. Many in the TMC feel that defeating Chowdhury in his home turf is almost impossible but then Banerjee is unlikely to give up without a tough fight, as her recent trip shows.
