BCCI president N Srinivasan's son, Ashwin and a friend of his were arrested on Monday for allegedly beating up the staff of an restaurant in Bandra. They also attacked the cop who asked them to leave the bar, the police reported on Thursday.
Ashwin (40) and his friend Avi Krishnamurthy (35) were in jail for the night at the Bandra police station lock-up. They were produced before a local court, which granted them bail on Tuesday.
According to the police, Ashwin went to Escobar on Monday night with his friend and the two men wanted more alcohol once the last orders closed. The staff refused to serve them citing 1:30 am deadline. Enraged Ashwin and his friend started arguing with the waiters saying that they would not pay their bill if they were not served more alcohol. Their bill had already run up to Rs 30,000.
'When the staff refused, the duo assaulted them and the bar staff notified the police. When our men went there they asked to pay the bill and leave the bar, the furious duo punched one of our constables,' said DCP Pratap Digaonkar.
'They two were taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the IPC for assaulting and preventing a public servant from discharging his duty,' Digaokar added.
The duo was on Tuesday produced before a court which granted them bail, he said.
