Bayern ordered to partially close stadium against Utd

Bayern Munich have been ordered to close part of their stadium for the Champions League match at home to Manchester United next month for ‘discriminatory behaviour’ by their supporters, UEFA said on Monday.

Bayern will have to shut ‘Sector 124’ of the Allianz Arena for the quarter-final second leg on April 9, UEFA said, although they gave no indication of which part of the stadium that section is located in or how many seats will be affected.  UEFA said fans showed ‘an illicit banner’ during the round of 16 tie at home to Arsenal earlier this month.

German clubs reject goalline technology

BERLIN:
Germany have opted not to bring in goalline technology after the clubs from the top two divisions voted against it, the football league (DFL) said on Monday.

The technology is already being used in other countries, including the English Premier League, and champions Bayern Munich had called for it to be brought in to the Bundesliga.

‘I can announce the clubs of the Bundesliga and the second Bundesliga opted to do without it,’ DFL president Reinhard Rauball said.

Bayern defender Dante extends deal to 2017

BERLIN:
Bayern Munich central defender Dante has extended his contract with last season’s treble winners by a year to 2017, the club said on Monday.

‘Dante has certainly been one of our best transfers in the past few years,’ said chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a statement.

‘He has developed into one of our key players on and off the pitch.’ Bayern, meet Manchester United in the Champions League quarterfinals.
