Brazilian star Neymar said on Tuesday he was eager to join his new club, Spanish powerhouse Barcelona, but vowed to focus on trying to win next month’s Confederations Cup with the national squad. ‘I am keen to get there (Barcelona) but I want to focus on the Confederations Cup to try to win the title for Brazil,’ he said at a marketing event before joining his international teammates in Rio de Janeiro.
‘We are going to show up to make a good Confederations Cup and make everybody happy. I want to give my very best, help the team, whether with a pass, or in defence. We have to unite. Brazilian football is one of the best in the world and will continue to be,’ he added. Confederations Cup, a dress rehearsal to next year’s World Cup, will be held in Brazil from 15 to 30 June.
Brazil, winner of five World Cups and three Confederations Cups, is preparing for next month’s tournament with two friendly games, one against England on 2 June in Rio and against France on June 9 in Porte Alegre.
Neymar admits to nerves ahead of joining Barca
Barcelona-bound Brazil forward Neymar has been feeling nervous ahead of his blockbuster transfer to the Spanish champions once he has finished playing in the Confederations Cup in June.
‘What I feel are chills in my stomach,’ the gazelle-like forward said referring to his impending move before adding that the nerves would not distract him from the Confederations Cup.
Neymar must live up to a price tag estimated at about 74 million Brazilian Real ($35.82 million) by local media. Neymar is expected to fly to Spain early next week for official presentation.
