With assembly elections round the corner, the BJP seems to be in a hurry to inaugurate development project in the national Capital. A case in point is the laying foundation stone for the phase-3 of elevated Barapullah flyover, which will connect east Delhi to south Delhi and is estimated to cost Rs 1260.63 crore.
Interestingly, the tender for the construction of the elevated flyover has not been invited yet.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who laid the foundation stone later expressed his annoyance to East Delhi MP Maheish Girri for not giving him full details about the tender process. “The third phase of Barapullah flyover will be very useful for the people of east and south Delhi. The project will be completed by June 2017,” promised Rajnath on the occasion.
The extension of elevated Barapulla flyover phase-3 will be from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar. The project will be completed at a cost of Rs 1260.63 crore.
The commissioning of the phase-3 will reduce distance between East Delhi, Mayur Vihar, Noida and South & other parts of Delhi, resulting in a big relief to the commuters and savings of fuel and valuable time.
At the function, Delhi’s Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung said the completion of entire project of Barapulla Elevated Road will benefit lakhs of commuters every day.
PWD secretary Arun Baroka said: “at present 70,000 PCUs (Passenger Car Units) are plying over Barapullah phase-1 stretch. This project has already recovered its cost by saving time and fuel. After completion of Barapullah phase-3, it is estimated that one lakh PCUs will use this stretch. We have estimated that this project will recover its cost in two and a half years.”
