Uttar Pradesh Congress has ridiculed state urban development minister Mohammad Azam Khan for his statement blaming the external affairs minister Salman Khurshid for the former’s humiliation in the United States. UP Congress MLA Akhilesh Pratap Singh in a statement in the national capital on Sunday condemned Khan saying, ‘Azam Khan always tries to remain in controversy, hence his attempt to malign the image of other political leaders.’
Earlier, a media report from New York said that Khan had blamed the external affairs minister for hatching a ‘conspiracy’ to defame him outside India. He even said that SP would review its decision to support UPA government after he narrated the humiliation in US.
‘When I was in detention inside the airport, the Consulate General’s protocol officers who had come to receive us acted like total strangers. I guess they must have got some instructions from their superiors to stay away,’ Khan alleged.
The Congress leader said that whole of India, including the UPA government, has condemned the US act and the union government has even lodged a protest with the American embassy in the capital. ‘In this scenario blaming External Affairs Minister for the fiasco that happened in Boston is nothing but a shameful act,’ he said.
