Autopsy report adds to mystery in cop, partner’s double deaths

Mystery continues to shroud the deaths of a Delhi police special cell inspector and his live-in partner, who were found dead at their rented accommodation in Gurgaon on Saturday. Police officials investigating the case are still unsure about the sequence of events leading to the twin deaths.

On Sunday evening, Gurgaon police received the autopsy reports of the two and the findings in the report seem to be in direct contradiction of what the investigators had till then thought the case to be.

The doctor who conducted the post-mortem of Badrish Dutt and Geeta Sharma, a divorcee, said that according to the reports Badrish killed Geeta before shooting himself. Sharma,  who had been in a live-in relationship with Dutt for the past one year received a gun shot injury on her head and had an exit wound on the right temple of the head.

However, Dutt received the gunshot injury on the right side of his head and the exit wound was found on the left temple.

'According to the gunshot angles, it seems that Dutt murdered Sharma and then killed himself. The paraffin test that was also conducted showed gun powder marks on the hands of Dutt. But the final conclusion is yet to be reached in the case. We are now waiting for the ballistic reports,' he added.

A source in the city hospital where the autopsy examination was carried out said that the duo had taken their dinner at around 11.30 pm and the murder-suicide took place between 1- 2 am. 'The last meal that the couple had eaten was yet undigested,' he said.

Talking to Millennium Post, an official of the Delhi police special cell, who visited the crime scene, the Ardee City flat in Gurgaon  where the couple lived and where their bodies were found, said, 'there are contradictions in the sequence  of events of the murder-cum-suicide. The findings at the crime scene on Saturday had hinted at a different sequence of events than the reports.

On Saturday, Sharma’s body had been found lying on top of Dutt’s, making it seem that Sharma killed Dutt before shooting herself. The report indications that Dutt had killed Sharma before shooting herself is difficult to believe.’

Maheshwar Dayal, joint commissioner police, Gurgaon said, 'We are waiting for the ballistic reports to clear the mystery.' But the special cell official said, 'There is a need of reconstruct and recreate the crime scene sequence to arrive at a solution.'
