Nearly 9,000 auto-rickshaws in NCR went on a two-day strike on January 27 and 28 respectively, with the auto unions call over “rigid conditions” set by the state transport department permits like mandatory installation of electronic meters.
Chaudhary Om Prakash Gurjar, president of Noida auto union, said that this was a symbolic protest and it would be intensified if the demands are not met.
“We are not against installation of electronic meters. We demand that the fare structure across NCR shall be uniform. In Delhi, the minimum fare for the first 2 km is Rs 25 while in Noida, it’s Rs 6.80 for the first one km. The fare for next one km in Delhi is Rs 8 while in Noida it is Rs 5.5. This is despite CNG being more expensive in Noida compared to Delhi,” he said.
