Aiming to improve surveillance and check the crime rate in the city, the Noida Authority is planning to install high-definition CCTV cameras atop mobile towers.
The authority has said that motive behind installing cameras on mobile towers is to bring vast parts of the city under CCTV surveillance.
In first phase, a total of 57 cameras are likely to be installed.
The Noida police, too, are planning to speed up their ‘city surveillance project’.
As per the plan, mobile tower operators will be provided with extra space to install CCTV cameras on the towers. These cameras will send video feed to the police control room free of cost through broadband fibre optic lines. The authority is collaborating with Reliance Jio for the initial phase of the project.
Officials of the authority said in later stages, other mobile phone tower operators will also be roped in for the project.
The authority has given in-principle approval to the installation of CCTV cameras. Mobile tower operators will have to procure a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the police to rule out privacy invasion.
The Noida Police, too, have decided to put the ‘City Surveillance project’ on fast-track.
The police have decided to bring the entire city under CCTV surveillance after a fashion designer, Shipra Mllik, went missing from Noida.
Under the Rs 100-crore project, the Noida Authority in collaboration with IIT-Delhi will install high-definition, CCTV cameras across the city.
“The project will be carried out in three phases. In the first phase, CCTV cameras will be installed at the two entry points to Noida – one from Delhi and the other from Ghaziabad; in the second phase, cameras will be installed along the 20sqkm route and the third phase involves installation near government offices, hospitals, malls and traffic junctions,” said an official of the Noida Authority.
