National Green Tribunal [NGT] has pulled up Ghaziabad Development Authority [GDA] and Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd [UPPCL] for using green belt area in Indirapuram to construct an electricity sub-station near Gaur Green City. NGT, in a hearing in the case on Wednesday, refused to vacate the stay order contending that the green belt should not used for any other purpose. NGT refused to vacate the stay order on the land and fixed the next date of hearing on 20 September. On plea of the Gaur Green City RWA, NGT had given a stay order on 24 July.
‘At the time of purchasing the flats, no such facility was proposed at this site and not even mentioned in Master Plan 2021 of GDA,’ said Alok Bhatnagar of GGCRWA.
The 400 KVA electricity sub-station is being built in green belt and less than 10 metres away from the residential society having 760 flats. The residents also showed their concern regarding traffic jams in the area due to proposed widening of NH-24.
According to the officers, the facility was being constructed to supply electricity to Indirapuram and nearby areas, which face acute power shortage and frequent outages, but they refused to comment as the matter is pending in tribunal.
