The authority officials claimed to have freed over five lakh square metres of land worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore from the squatters, including small time builders who have illegally erected colonies along the river bed. Since the start of the anti-encroachment drive, the authority is said to have recovered over 10 lakh square metres of land worth Rs 5 lakh crore.
The drive was conducted in the flood plains of the Hindon river and in areas surrounding Noida-Greater Noida expressway, mainly in Haibatpur village.
According to officials, early morning raid were conducted in these areas and hundreds of illegal establishments were razed; hoardings and banners offering sale of land were also removed by the team despite objections from the errant encroachers.
It may be noted that after media reports earlier, Rama Raman, the CEO and chairman of Noida Authority had reiterated that the authority will come down heavily on land mafia who have not only grabbed the government’s land illegally but are selling it to people by hiding the facts.
The CEO had also warned to initiate penal action against the squatters with the help of law
enforcement agency.
‘We have been conducting anti-encroachment drive continuously and in the last one year we have freed a big portion of encroached land. If nefarious trade of illegal encroachers would continue, we would intensify our drive in future,’ the chairman had said earlier in a press conference.
