The environmentalists have said that the waste is not only harmful to human being, but ‘it will also destroy the trees and plants in the area and pollute ground water.’
A physical survey of the area reveals the sordid state of affairs. The huge amount of waste, generated from the factories, have also covered most part of the road. The locals have complained that this has also led to severe medical complications.
People here are developing high blood pressure, breathing problems, digestive issues, nerve disorders among other diseases. ‘As battery lead and other chemical coated materials are lying in open, they are generating sulphuric acid and other poisonous gases. The locals are facing medical problems which is a serious concern,’ said Dr BP Tyagi, an ENT specialist practising in Ghaziabad.
Meanwhile, the environmentalists have alleged that the authorities are aware about it. ‘The waste is being dumped at these sites in connivance with local officials, which is brazen violation of green norms’, said said Aruna Vashishtha, an environmentalist. The pollution department officials, however, said that they have not received any complaint in this regards.
