An unguarded ATM machine was stolen by unidentified robbers in northwest Delhi’s Narela area on Monday night. The ATM machine reportedly had seven lakh cash.

The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when a sweeper found the ATM booth of Union Bank of India in Narela completely ransacked and the machine missing.

Along with the ATM machine, the CCTV camera was also found to be missing. He raised an alarm and reported the matter to police. Police suspect the involvement of four to six people in the brazen robbery. The police informed that the ATM machine was unguarded and the robbers had also broken the streetlights before uprooting the cash dispenser.

‘It seems the robbers had examined the spot well before committing the crime. They knew the ATM booth was not guarded and the stretch where it was located remains mainly deserted. The ATM machine contained Rs 6,94,200 when it was stolen,’ said a senior police official.

A case under sections 407 and 380 of the IPC have been registered at Narela Police Station and further investigations are on, the officer said.

The forensic team of Delhi Police visited the crime scene and picked circumstantial evidence. Police is scanning the CCTV footage of the nearby localities and the roads leading to the spot where the ATM machine was located to identify the robbers and vehicle which was used to carry the machine.

‘They would have definitely used a pick up truck or a loading auto to carry the machine’, the officer added.
