The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement on Wednesday, although over 1.45 lakh people are still affected in over 300 villages across the state.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its flood report that over 1.45 lakh people are affected as of now in 317 villages across Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Barpeta, Goalpara, Morigaon, Dhubri, Golaghat, Udalguri and Cachar districts.
Till Tuesday, nearly 2.6 lakh people were hit by flood in over 500 villages across 11 districts. The worst hit is Goalpara district with over 63,000 people affected, followed by <g data-gr-id="16">Morigaon</g> with over 33,000 hit, ASDMA said. More than 15,000 hectares of crops are under water, the report mentioned.
Authorities are operating 34 relief camps in Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Morigaon, Barpeta and Goalpara, where nearly 12,000 people are taking shelter.
The deluge has claimed 15 lives so far across many districts, taking the toll in this year's two phases of <g data-gr-id="17">flood</g> to 20 in Assam. The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark.
