Mercedes-Benz India sold 7,138 units of cars as wholesale (number of units sold by manufacturer MBIL to dealer partners) in calendar year 2012.
MBIL, the Indian arm of German car manufacturer Daimler AG's multinational division, also achieved the segment benchmark in terms of overall sales of luxury cars (range of cars priced above Rs 30 lakh) in India.
The new M-Class SUV launched in India in May 2012 has already been booked until May while the B-Class, which pioneered the Sports Tourer category in India, is also booked until February. Howver, it is the S-Class, which epitomises luxury motoring, continues to be the overwhelming leader in its segment.
Despite all the talk of the Indian economy slowing down, Mercedes-Benz India pursued an aggressive network expansion strategy in 2012. With the opening of six new touch points in Tier II and III cities, MBIL now is now present in 31 cities, with 72 touch points and has the densest network among all luxury car manufacturers in India. 'Our sales performance has been overall in line with expectations. At the same time we have managed to retain our profitability and premium in 2012,' said Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer Eberhard Kern. He added that '2013 will be an exciting year for us. We will continue to delight our customers through an array of fascinating products, engagements and experiences'. Mercedes-Benz India continues to enjoy a very strong brand equity in the Indian market. Interbrand, the world’s leading brand consultancy which annually publishes its Best Global Brands report of the world’s 100 most valuable brands, ranked Mercedes-Benz 12th in 2012, which is higher than its competitors.
The ranking analyses the ways a brand touches and benefits an organisation, from driving bottom-line business results to delivering on customer expectations.
