Family of Disabled (FOD) an organization for welfare of people with disabilities and founded by Rajinder Johar after becoming quadriplegic (paralysis of all the four limbs) is organising the 11th Edition of Beyond Limits art exhibition showcasing 100 exclusive artworks by artists with disabilities from different parts of India- Jammu, Ladakh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana, Punjab, etc. FOD is celebrating the abilities and creative talent of various disabled artists in a week-long exhibition as observance of the World Disability Day on December 3.
The exhibits would remain on display till December 8 from 11am to 7 pm at Arpana Art Gallery, Academy of Fine Arts and Literature, 4/6, Siri Fort Institutional Area in the Capital.
Beyond Limits 2014, offering humongous variety of style under one roof will provide a platform to 50 professional, qualified / self-taught artists to showcase their exquisite artworks. Visit to witness sculptures in bronze, aluminium and fiber and canvas and paper, coming to life with water, oil and acrylic colours, mixed media, collage work, etching and lithography.
A great mix of flavours to suit every taste awaits art connoisseurs and aficionados.
With a belief that art is a medium to give creative expression to one’s inner feelings and the world one sees around, FOD introduced Beyond Limits in 2001 and have benefited numerous disabled artists in reaching out to people with their imagination and creativity. This platform also provides financial support, public recognition and appreciation to the participating artists.
FOD was founded in 1992 by Rajinder Johar, after he became disabled sustaining an injury to his spinal cord. It was in 1994 that he was introduced to an artist having quadriplegia (paralysis of all the four limbs). With the aim to promote her work and to raise funds for the organisation, FOD came out with its first set of 4 greeting cards that very year, all done by the same artist - Shivani Gupta. Soon, we came across the abundant talent among artists with disabilities and realised that we need a bigger platform to do justice to them.
FOD is also one of the only two NGOs featured in Satyamev Jayate in their programme highlighting disability issues.
