Arsenal see off Villa threat to claim back top ranking

It was a fourth consecutive victory for Arsene Wenger’s side and continued Villa’s poor run on their home ground, where they have failed to win in their last five matches and only twice in the league all season.

Christian Benteke’s first goal in 13 matches prompted a late burst of Villa pressure, but it was too late to rescue a draw.  Arsenal are now one point clear of second placed Manchester City, with Chelsea a further point behind the leaders, as the title race hots up.

Matic in London to clinch Chelsea return: Report


LONDON: Benfica midfielder Nemenja Matic is poised to rejoin Chelsea in a 26 million euro (£22 million) deal, according to reports in Portugal on Tuesday.

The Serbian international first signed for Chelsea from Slovakian side Kosice in 2009 but was sold to Benfica in the 2011 January transfer window in a deal which saw David Luiz move to Stamford Bridge.  Confirming the Chelsea interest Matic told A Bola sports daily: ‘Now is a good time to leave. I want to improve, I want to play in a better league and I want to go to Chelsea.’

The paper says Matic will travel to London on Tuesday to finalise the deal. He definitely strengthens the squad.
