As exit poll are adding to the anxieties of the Congress candidates, many are trying to beat the stress by engaging in family activities. While there was a sombre mood in the Congress party, BJP too was not too confident to start celebrating as according to their post-poll internal reports AAP has sliced away a major chunk of their vote bank.
According to sources, Delhi BJP in-charge Nitin Gadkari summoned a meeting of all candidates of the party to assess the future of city politics. Congress, however, did not summon any formal meeting but a deep silence was spread across the rank and file of the party.
The debutant, AAP and small parties like BSP, JD (U) were also doing frantic consultations to get feedback from their candidates, workers and strategists.
‘Our internal post-poll surveys predict a simple majority, but at almost all the seats Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has barged into our votebank besides slicing away a major portion of anti-incumbency votes,’ said a senior BJP leader after compiling his post-poll calculations.
The post-poll surveys of various agencies have clearly shown decrease in Congress’s tally and gain by BJP but the debutant AAP has made poll prediction mysterious.
Meanwhile, several candidates are worried about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the possibility of their getting tampered.
Allaying such fears, chief electoral officer, Vijay Dev said, ‘The EVMs have been kept at 14 different centres across the national capital. As many as 900 personnel have been tasked with ensuring their security.’
‘11,993 EVMs, which hold the fate of 810 candidates in the Delhi assembly elections, have been kept under high security in 14 counting centres across the city,’ Election Commission officials said on Thursday. ‘To avoid tampering, we had shifted the EVMs to safe centres. This was done Wednesday night itself when voting ended,’ the officials said.
