Anup Chetia gets 14-day judicial custody

ULFA leader Golap Baruah alias Anup Chetia was on Monday remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody by a Special Judicial Magistrate of the CBI, Assam, at the end of his five-day CBI custody.

Chetia’s lawyer Bijon Mahajan said the ULFA leader was sent to judicial custody and would be produced before the court on December 5. He will be lodged in Guwahati Central Jail, Mahajan said.

Chetia, 48, was arrested by the CBI under RC (Regular Case) No. 4(S)/1988 in connection with a murder in Golaghat (Assam). He was produced in the SJM CBI Court on November 18, which remanded him in CBI custody for five days. At the end of the CBI remand, Chetia was produced before the court on Monday.

The ULFA general Secretary was brought to Guwahati this morning reportedly from Delhi and was directly taken from the airport here to Assam Police Special Branch headquarters at Kahilipara before being produced in the court at 4 pm.
