In an early hours accident on Yamuna Expressway, four students on their way to Taj Mahal were injured when their high speeding BMW car collided with the central verge and overturned several times. A girl student of the Amity University, among others, received serious injuries.
She was first admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida but later referred to Delhi. According to sources, the students had an overnight party in Hotel Shangri-La in New Delhi before leaving for the Taj Mahal. Till now, the police has not performed the breathalyser test to ascertain whether the driver was drunk or not. No police case has been registered so far.
The injured were identified as Govind Choudhury, Nischay Kanaujia, Punia Mahajan and Sana. ‘The car overturned several times on the expressway and was damaged badly. At the time of the accident, Nischay was driving the car,’ said Rajkumar Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police in Jewar. ‘We are not sure about the speed as the Jaypee group has not provided any information in this regard,’ added Mishra. ‘Sana received severe head injuries and her ribs were fractured. Her parents took her to a Delhi hospital late in the evening,’ said Sunil Kapur, Superintendent of the Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida.
The car was registered in the name of Nischay’s father Anil Kanaujia, who lives in Saraswati Vihar in Delhi. Govind is a LLB student in Amity University and Sana is a Mass Communication student in the same university. Nischay is pursuing B.Com from Bhagat Singh college of Delhi University while Punia is a BA student in Delhi University.
So far, six persons have lost their lives on Yamuna Expressway due to high speed-related accidents in less than a month of its inauguration.
‘We came to know about the accident through media and then confirmed it with Jaypee group officials on Sunday, around 9 pm. The patrol vehicle of the Jaypee group and their officers had admitted the injured to Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida,’ said Dharmendra Chauhan, Inspector of Jewar police station.
The Deputy Superintendent of police also confirmed that a case has not been registered as no official from the Jaypee group approached the police.
