Another life snuffed out on Yamuna E-way, this time its an Air Force Captain
Rising fatalities on the Yamuna Expressway continue unabated. In a high-speed crash in the in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, an Air Force Captain was killed while his driver suffered severe injuries. Police said that the duo met with the accident when their vehicle rammed into another vehicle on the carriageway connecting Greater Noida to Agra.
Police took both the victims to a private hospital where the Captain was declared brought dead while the condition of the driver was stated to be critical. Police have seized the vehicle with which the Captain’s car collided but are yet to identify the accused driver as he managed to flee from the spot.
According to police, the accident took place around 12.30 am, about 35-kilometre away from Zero Point on the Delhi-Agra side. The Air Force Captain, Nageswar Rao, along with his driver were on their way to Agra from Delhi in an Etios car while a speeding mini truck was also on the same side.
When their vehicle reached in the Jewar area, the driver of the truck attempted to overtake several times. Near a loop on the carriageway, the errant truck driver overtook the Captain’s car but lost his control over the vehicle and came in the line of the car. In a desperate attempt to avoid the accident, the driver of the car hit the truck.
Police said that the impact of the accident was so high that most part of the Etios was smashed completely and the occupants suffered injuries in most parts of the body. The passers-by informed the police and a rescue team took them to Kailash Hospital in Jewar where Rao, a resident of Hyderabad in Telangana, was declared dead while the driver was admitted to the ICU.
“We have conducted post-mortem examination and have handed his body to the bereaved family members. We have also seized the truck and have been trying to identify the accused driver as he is on run after the accident,” said B R Ziadi, SHO Jewar police station.
The police official informed that Nageswar Rao was an Air Force official since 1996 and was posted at Agra in the rank of a Captain since August 2015. He, however, said that no case have been registered yet as police are yet to receive a written complaint from the deceased’s family but have claimed to carry out police investigation from their own part.
